H. Poor, a member of the New York Stock Exchange, has failed, his liabilities totalling five million dollars. The Governor of Kentucky has ordered out a company of State militia to assist the country marshals to suppress rioting in Whittey County, where the miners are out on strike. Already there have been fierce conflicts between the miners and the authorities, and several on both sides have been killed. Several miners were burned to death in a hotel fire which followed a fight between the marshal's forces and the strikers. Mr Henniker Heaton has informed the president of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce that there will not be the least difficulty in reducing the cable rates from 50 to 75 per cent., owing to the powerful pressure b6ing brought to bear on the cable companies and foreign Governments,-also owing to the Imperial Government's action in regard to the construction of Stateowned cables.
