Stray Cattle.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir. —Allow mc to point out to the County Council the desirability of securing from the Auctioneering Companies a portion of their saleyards to be used for impounding cattle, as, under the present state of affairs, horses and cattle are allowed to roam aimlessly through the town and congregrate for months at a time on back sections close handy. Only a few days ago fuliy 50 horses and cattle could have been mustered on one section. The damage caused by such a herd to private drains and fencing is considerable, and it is certainly about lime steps were taken to reduce the nuisance to a minimum. While waiting lor the local bodies to take action, the " I'ubhV Works Act" allow.- the police to take the alternative -a step which should no longer !).? deferred.—Vours, e(c, 1 TOWNSMAN.
