There is a joke concerning Senator Blackburn which the Kentuckians are never tired of relating. The senator is foremost in praising up the products of Kentucky State, especially those of the liquid order. He was paying a visit to an old friend who lived a considerable distance away, and who met him at the station. "Well," said this friend, shaking him heartily by the hand, "how are you Joe" "I'm up against it," the senator replied; "L Test the best part of my luggage en route." His friend was much concerned. "Did you misplace it?" he inquired, "or was it stolen" "Neither," replied the senator. The cork came out,."
Few psrsons know that it is possible actually to see the wind, but it can be done as follows: Take a polished metal surface of two feet or more, with a straightedge; a large handsaw will answer the purpose. Choose a windy day for the experiment, whether hot or cold, clear or cloudy; only let it not be in murky, rainy weaker. Hold your metallic surface at right angles to the direction of the wind, i.e., if the wind is north hold your surface east and west, but instead of holding it vertical incline it about twelve degrees to the horizon, so that the wind striking, glances and flows over the edge, as the water flows over a dam. Now sight carefully along the edge some minutes at a sharoly defined object, and you will see the wind pouring over the edge in graceful curves. Make your observations carefully and you will hardly ever fail in the experiment. The results are better if the sun is obscured.
