KAWHIA.
(Own Correspondent)
The only excitement we have had here lately has been over the petition against the election of Councillors. The Magistrate sat here on Wednesday, and decided that the election was null and void, as the returning officer had not been properly appointed.
We have had hot dry weather lately and the country would be all the better for some rain. Still the weather has been good for shearing, most of the farmers having almost, if not quite finished. It is estimated that about 500 bales of wool will be exported from here this season.
The Dairy Facory is working, but the supply of cream is not large so far, many of people who intended to supply, not having been able to get started this year. However, they are preparing for next year, and from all accounts the Factory will be kept busy then. Fish are plentiful in the harbour just now, and for those who enjoy the sport Kawhia is an ideal place to spend a holiday. The Council have received notice
that the £2OOO loan for shed and extension is available now, will be called shortly for trie" various works.
