HAMILTON.
(Own Correspondent.) A public meeting was held in Hamilton last Thursday to consider the proposal for the formation of a Fresh Food and Ice Company. Mr Goodfellow, who presided, explained that the meeting had been called in order to give outsiders a chance of hearing details in collection with the scheme. He explained that he and Mr Blomquest intended to run the Company, and that Messrs Green and Colebrook had no connection with it in any way. It was intended to purchase the Siiverdale plant, and to spend some £2,500 on the business before forming it into a limited liability company. It was not his intention to ask putsiders to take up shares until the scheme was in working order. Shares would be offered then to suppliers. Their intention was to obtain butter fat from all parts of the district. Butter fat could be railed from Te Kuiti or Te Aroha at a cost of 1-5 of a penny per lb. The first argument in favour of the scheme was, that instead of carting tons of milk to the factory, farmers, when going in for home separation'need only carry their cream, and this would be of special benefit to those farmers situated where the roads are often deep with mud. They guarantee 10|d per lb. for butterfat, which amount would be paid monthly. A very large number of cows have already been promised, and they only require 300 or 400 cows to make a start. It was stated by a gentleman present at the meeting that better butter could be made from home separated cream than from cream in an ordinary factory. No definite action was taken, but another meeting will shortly be called when further details have been arranged.
