MOKAU-WAITEWHENA RAILWAY LEAGUE.

- A meeting of the Mokau-Waitewhena Railway League was held in the Miroahuiao Hall on Thursday last. Mr P. O'Bwyer presided and there was a good attendance of members. The Chairman in opening the meeting" said that since last they had met there had been a considerable change indicated with regard to the StratfordMain Trunk railway. The deviation asked for by the League had been favorably reported upon, and, though the question had not been definitely settled the Waitewhena route was being seriously considered. A considerable amount of correspondence was dealt with, including a letter'from the Te Kuiti Railway League requesting the Mokau-Waitewhena League to co-operate with Te Kutii in advocating that centre as the connecting point of the line with the Main Trunk railway. After discussing the question it was decided to take no active part in the matter, and to leave the question of the junction with the authorities. Mr Elliot explained the steps taken in connection with the mail services, and read the reply of the Minister stating that further proposals from the settlers would receive consideration. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Elliott and the Chronicle representative for their efforts in connection with the mail service, and it was decided to leave the matter of further proposals in their hands. Mr Elliot detailed the steps which had been taken with regard to providing another stone crudier for metalling the main road, ana reported that there was a good prospect of an extra crusher being provided directly the necessary arrangements could be made. The report of the delegates (Messrs Hickman and Elliott) who* visited the Ohura was received. The pamphlet, drafted by Messrs Jackson and Elliot, setting forth the arguments in favour of the deviation of the Stratford-Main Trunk line, and explaining the comprehensive aims of the League, was read and considered. It was decided to have a thousand copies printed, and circulated throughout the Dominion.
