The Pig.
Indifference about t.ie bonding of suckling pig's produces many diseases that the farmer is very slow to attribute to his poor care. Radical indiTercnce in treatment and sudden changing of food sometimes results in disadvantage and damage to the health and thrift of the hog. A poor sow is in no condition to make a large litter of pigs. Of course the sow should not be over fat, and she is not likely to be over fat if she has plenty of green food, is not fed too much corn, and has plenty of range. The pig is naturally a forager and when he is kept confined in the pen and fed with grain he is in artificial condition, and his general character is Changed; he is not the healthy, meat making animal he could be if he could have more liberty and a wider range of diet.
