DISTRICT PARS.

A sitting of the Native Land Court was opened at Kihikihi by Chief Judge Palmer on Thursday. In connection with the extra mail service from Te Kuiti to the various back block offices, it is understood that the Department is awaiting further communications from the settlers embodying proposals which may be found acceptable to the authorities. Mr Mathieson, accountant at the Bank of New Zealand, Te Awamutu, was this week married to Miss Bockett, also of Te Awamutu. Mr Mathieson's many friends in this district will wish him all good luck for the future.

Last week Mr Farrer, who for some months past has been with the firm of Messrs Jordan and Co., surveyors, Te Kuiti, left for Hamilton, where he joins the firm of Messrs Thompson and St. Hill. Mr G. Thornton, who has resided in Te Kuiti for the past three years and at one time occupied the position of Crown Lands Ranger for the district, left on Tuesday for Hamilton where he joins the same firm. The opening ceremony of the North Island Main Trunk line has again been altered, and will now be held on sth November.

Speaking at Waitara, Mr Jennings said, it seemed to him that the point had been reached when there would be some divergence on the part of a section who had been allied to the Liberal Party. Deputations occupied a considerable portion of the time at the last meeting of the Waitomo County Council, no less then four applications being supported by persons interested. The Mangaorino road deviation was supported by Messrs Boddie, Cornish and Snowden; the Bowling Club by Messrs Boddie, Forsyth and Fortescue; a petition from Mairoa settlers by Mr Travers; Mr Darrow represented Messrs Green and Colebrook in an application, and Mr T. Porter appeared with a proposal to purchase a road reserve.

The opening day at the Defence Rifle Club's range at Mangaroa has been changed to the King's Birthday, November 9th, and not November sth as previously advertised.
