In reference to the granting of the privilege to Crown tenants under the L.I.P. tenure, of converting their leases into freehold a difficulty has arisen in connection with a number of the Ohura sections. When the»c sections were thrown open they were, in consequence of agitation on the part ofi some of the townspeople, brought under the provisions of Section 121 of the Land Act, 1892. This provides that the sections can only be leased and the mineral rights are reserved by ( the Crown. Mr Jennings lias been iiu communication with the Minister for Lands regarding the matter, and lias received a reply to the effect "that tl« whole question is to be submitted ■ the Soliictor General. ■
