THE STONE CRUSHER.
In connection with the agitation regarding the atone crusher supplied to the Roads Department for the district the following telegram waa sent to the Premier and Mr Jennings on Thursday last:—
"Largely attended meeting of settlers heldJiere this morning passed resolution of indignation and disappointment at the utter incapactiy of the 'stone crusher recently purchased. Respectfully request that the large traction engine and crusher now lying idle at Makatote Viaduct be placed at the disposal of the Roads Department for u: o on the To Kuiti-Awakino road for a period of six months. Signed J. Boddie, Chairman; G. Elliottt, Secretary." A reply has been received from the I Premier stating that he would enquire into the matter, and a telegram from Mr Jennings stated that the Department was making provision for better machinery and enquiries were being made at Makatote as suggested by the settlers.
