CLOSING HOURS FOR SHOPS.
Requisition Required for Waitomo County. A short time ago requisitions were forwarded through the Waitomo County Council by the business people interested, for the purpose of claiming under the Act, an extension of the time for closing, as compared with the statutory closing hours for stores and factories. The following letter has been received by the Council, and it will be noted that a fresh requisition is necessary on the part of the tobacconists and hairdressers. The method of proceedure is explained by the letter:—
"Department of Labour, Wellingtons August 26ht, 1908. —Mr John Ormsby., Clerk, Waitomo County Council. Dear Sir, —In reply to your letter of the 14th covering two requisitions from business people in your township. The one from fishmongers and fruiterers is in order, and being sent forward for gazette this week. The one from the tobacconists and hairdressers is not quite in order. The petitioners fix the hours of closing, and quote in addition the hours of opening. The opening hours have nothing whatever to do with this Department. It should be definitely stated in the requisition the hours of closing each day. No distinction can be made between the closing hours of saloons and shops. They must be closed simultaneously. Will you kindly notify the parties interested to send me a further requisition, as outlined herein. Yours faithfully, J. LOMAS, Chief Inspector."
