HONIKIWI.

—. o (Own Correspondent). The usual monthly social took place on Saturday night. Beautiful weather favoured the gathering, which was a very large one. Dancing commenced about 8 p.m., and was kept up till midnight, Mr G. B. Budden again proving an efficient M.C. Songs were contributed by Messrs Nicholson, and J. Coe. Mr A. Cooke contributed three recitations, which were highly appreciated. Messrs Coe, Purham and Roke provided excellent dance music.

Contracts have been let for the widening of the main road from the Mangonei bridge to the Tapuae road. Other sections of the main road to Otorohanga will be let later. These improvements will prove of great benefit to the back settlers.

There is some talk of- the veteran Maori Minister, Rev. Tamahana, holding services in the school occasionally. The machinery having been set tip in Mr Howe's mill, it.may be expected to start cutting shortly.
