o— King Country Matters. BY TELEGRAPH. Wellington, Thurs da y. A petition from the sawmill hands at Otorohanga has been presented to the House by Mr Jennings. It is asked that increased duty be put on Oregon pine imported to the Dominion. A large deputation of members introduced by Messrs Witty and Jennings interviewed the Minister of Agriculture re threatened prohibition of boned meat, into the home country. The matter is a serious one for farmers and over fifteen members of the House took part in the representation. The Minister said every means were taken by the High Commissioner who was instructed by Cabinet to make the strongest representation against the prohibition. The Government was prepared to satisfy all demands in the directionthat vigorous inspection and care would be guaranteed. The proposal to prohibit boned meat importation is general one, not being confined to New ?,e:\lar.d.
