OUTBACK MAILS
The time is fast approaching when it will be possible to increase our back country mail services at the least possible cost and inconvenience, and it is to be hoped a strong effort will be made to secure at least one extra service a week to our most populous out-back districts. There can be no difference of opinion as to the desirableness of more frequent mails. With the settlement of land, population is increasing, and from a business point of view, alone, there is every reason why the settlers should be brought into closer touch with the town centres, and markets. The business of farming is the most important in the Dominion, and its successful pursuit demands rapid communication and a daily knowledge of the current happenings. What may be sufficient for the first year or two of pioneering and preparing for stock, falls far short of the necessities of the general farming com munity.. Our out-back districts are being rapidly developed and many cases have reached the point where a knowledge of current events is indispensable. We trust the cfiort will be made and that the Department concerned will meet the request of the settler in a sympathetic manner.
