PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.
King Country Matters.
During the present session the King Country has come into much greater prominence than previously, especially in regard to the Native land legislation ; Mr. Jennings, the energetic member for the district, has been consistently urging the needs of the great Rohe Potae, and in additon has brought many matters of local interest personally before the various Ministers. With regard to the necessity for improved Railway facilities at Otorohanga, the Minister for Railways states that he has asked for a report to be submitted, and on receipt of the same will give definite answer as to what will be done in the matter. A request for the opening of a post office at Tokirima road, Ohura, is now being enquired into, and if possible will be acceded to. Mr. Jennings supported the representations of Mangapehi residents with regard to the blocking of railway crossings by the fencing of the line and has received a reply from the Minister to' the effect that arrangements have been made to shift back the fence so as to leave room for the road where the land runs adjacent to the creek. It is also intended to provide a crossing at the site mentioned about a mile below where the road already existed, but as the cattle stops were not ready at the time temporary slip panels only were provided. In connection with the request for improved railway facilities at Hangatiki, Mr. Jennings has received a reply from the Hon. Hall-Jones to the effect that a report is being obtained on the subject, and the representations of the settlers and the member will receive every consideration.
