WAIKATO WINTER SHOW.
The second Waikato Winter Show Abas opened in the Horse Bazaar, on Wednesday, July Bth. i The President (Mr Allen Bell) extended a welcome to all those present at the opening ceremony, and called upon the Mayor (Mr J. S. Bond) to formally declare the Show open. Mr Bond congratulated the Association on the great success that had attended their first two efforts, and also paid a high tribute to the exhibitors upon their splendid displays. He congratulated the ladies upon the excellent display in the Home Industries section, and remarked that the Show was a great advertisement for the Waikato. The Show was, undoubtedly, an eye-opener to many,_ as nothing so interesting or instructive was expected by the majority of the visitors. As soon as one entered the large building he was struck with the beauty of the decorations, which chiefly consisted of tree - ferus and bunting most tastefully arranged, and the exhibits were, one and all, excellently displayed and reflected great credit on the exhibitors. The principal stands were as follows :—Bevin, Baker, Ltd.: Hartnett Milking Machine, Syms Weighing Machine, Engines and Dairy Machinery. J. Dah!: Dairy Machinery. J. Walker: Bird Fancier and Breeder. Hallenstein Bros.: N.Z. Clothing Factory. Dillicar Bros.: Groceries. A. E. Manning : Chemist, Cattle Drenches, etc. McAndrew and Co.: Joinery. Portland and Co. The Department of Agriculture, the Beekeepers' Association, and veterinary displays were most interesting and comprehensive, and received a great deal of attention from farmers and others. The poultry, pigeon, and canary classes were well • filled. There were the usual attractions in the way of side-shows, consisting of Punch and Judy, Laughing Gallery, Merry-go-round, Shooting Gallery, and others which delight the heart of both young and old, and a " roaring " business was apparently being done bv all. The Hamilton Brass Band played an excellent programme of music each afternoon and evening, with the exception of Saturday evening, when the Cambridge band provided the music. Taken from every point of view, the Show must be termed an unqualified success. The attendance of the public was extremely large, each evening the building being filled almost to overflowing, and the officials must indeed feel gratified that the result of all their labours has been crowned with such success. The weather was most unpropitious, and had it been fine throughout the four Show days, no doubt the attendance would have! been larger. Considering that the rain was almost continuous, the attendance was doubly gratifying, and it is to be hoped that when the accounts are balanced the Executive will have a good solid balance on the right side of the ledger.
• A case of local importance was heard before the Native Appellate Court on the 2nd and 3rd inst. at Otorohanga. Mr Jer. Ormsby appealed against the dismissal of his application under Section 39 of " 1 he Native Land Court Act, 1894," for the inclusion of the names of Rangiterewai and nineteen others in the list of owners of Rangitoto-Tuhua, No. 67 (Kaingaika). Mr Fred. Earl (Earl and Kent) appeared for the appellant. The Court has decided that the 20 persons be awarded one share each, and that the deposit of £25 be refunded. There is a probability of the case not ending here —in any case _ a readjustment of the partitions will have to be made. The British footballers who have been showing greatly improved form in their recent matches met with another reverse on Wednesday, when they were defeated by the i aranaki representatives by 5 points to nil. The visitors meet the Auckland representatives on Saturday next, when a great game is expected. For Children's Hacking Cough at night Woods' Great Pepperment Cure Is 6d. & 2s 6d.
