STOCK SALES.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— On Tuesday last we held our annual Ohaupo turnip cattle and sheep sale, and yarded 1,150 odd cattle, and 7.000 sheep and lambs. A large attendance of buyers was present from all parts of the Waikato, Te Puke, Te Kuiti, Kawhia, Waingaro, Raglan and neighbourhood. Competition was brisk throughout for everything in really forward condition. Three-year-old steers were not required unless at low prices, but most of those reserved whilst at auction were quitted before leaving the yards. Young cattle, and up to two-year-old steers, were in demand, all of this class selling at the hammer. Forward 3*2 and 4-year-old bullocks realised from £6 to £7 8s ; fat steers, £6 I2s 6d to £9 2s 6d ; 3-year-old steers, £4 16s to £5 lOs ; and 3-year-old steers in low condition, £3 8s to £4 7s 6d; 2-year steers, £3 Is to £3 15s; yearling to 18-months steers, £2 4s to £2 16s; mixed yearlings, £1 16s to £2 ; empty 18-months and 2-year heifers, £l 16s to £2 2s ; well-grown calves, £l 5s t0 £l lOs 6d; others, 18s to £l 7s 6d ; fresh-conditioned cows and heifers, £2 17s 6d to £4 ; fat cows, £4 16s to £5 13s ; store cows, £l 7s 6d to £2 ; bulls, £2 lOs to £4. Good competition ruled for the sheep and lambs, every pen selling at the hammer or afterwards, with the exception of the wethers from Rangitikei, of which only part were sold. Small 2-tooth wethers realised from lis lOd to 13s 6d; forward 2 and 4-tooth wethers, 15s to 17s 6d ; fat ewes, 14s 6d to 16s 9d; fat wethers and ewes (mixed), 18s; full-mouthed ewes in lamb, lOs to 14s (one line from Hora Hora Estate of 900, 10s each) ; empty ewes, 7s 6d to 9s ; good woolly lambs, 8s to lis 6d; shorn lambs, 6s 6d to Bs.
The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report: — We held a sheep fair at Ngaruawahia last Wednesday, when 6,100 sheep were penned. There a representative attendance of buyers from the surrounding districts, and although prices were slightly lower (particularly for ewes in lamb), than the week previous at Ohaupo, practically the whole yarding was disposed of under the hammer. Fat and forward cross-bred 4 and 6-tooth wethers, 16s 8d to 18s 3d ; 2-tooth wethers, 13s 2d to 15s gd ; store 2-tooth wethers (close wools), 8s 6d to Us 6d ; 2-tooth ewes, 12s lid; fat and forward woolly hoggets, ios 5d to I2s ; store hoggets (woolly), 7s 2d to 8s 9d; forward shorn hoggets, 7s id to 8s iod ; stores, 4s 2d to 5s iod; fat and forward ewes, lis to 145 ; 4 and 6-tooth ewes in lamb, 16s; fresh full-mouth ewes, lOs 6d-to 13s ; others, 6s 4d to 9s 6d ; ewes with failing mouths, 4s. At Hamilton, Thursday, May 2lst, we had a full yarding of sheep, 1,500 being penned, and the usual number of cattle. There was a good attendance, and a good enquiry for hoggets, but fat sheep and beef and store cattle were dull of sale. Fat steers, £6 17s 6d to £7 ss; fat cows and heifers, £4 4s to £5 15s; store cows, £2 3s; aged cows, 20s to 30s ; good calves, 18s to 27s ; younger sorts, 8s ;
springing heifers, £4 ss; fat ewes, 14s gd ; fat hoggets, woolly lis, shorn 9s ; store woolly hoggets, 5 s id to 8s 6d ; full-mouth ewes in lamb, 9s 6d to Us 6d ; 2-tooth ctose wool wethers, I2s 8d ; pigs, slips, lis 3d to 15s 6d ; weaners, 5s to 7s 9d.
At Cambridge last Friday we yarded 300 head of cattle. There was a large attendance. Well-fatted steers £8 12s 6d to £9 7s 6d, lighter weights £7 ss, fat cows £4 10s, and 3-year steers £4 10s, small 2%-year steers £3 13s, iS-months and 2-year empty heifers £2 5s to £2 I2s 6d, 15 to 18month empty heifers 31 s to £2 2s, store cows £2 to £3, yearling steers £2 is, good calves 22s to 28s 6d, younger sorts 15s, springing heifers £4 to £4 I2s 6d, full-mouth ewes in lamb Bs, pigs, slips 15s, weaners 4s to 9s 6d.
