WAITOMO.

The meeting of ratepayers called for the discussion of raising a loan, &c, on May 2nd, was well attended. The Councillor for the Riding was voted to the chair, and explained that the object of the meeting was to discuss the proposal to borrow £4,500 from the Government for the purpose of widening the Caves-Mairoa-Hau-turu and Mangapohue roads to a width of twelve feet. After some little discussion on the matter, a proposal by Mr M. Kelly, that a loan of £4,500 be raised from the Government for the purpose of carrying out the above works, was put to the meeting and carried, and that the Councillor for the Riding be instructed to take the necessary steps to have the matter completed.
