THE KING COUNTRY CHRONICLE. FRIDAY, APRIL 17, 1908. POST AND TELEPHONE REQUIREMENTS.
OUR country districts are setting a good example in the matter of agitating for efficient means of communication with the outside world and with each other, and it is to be hoped the time is not far distant when ail our settlers will be linked together by means of telephones. The Kaeaea settlers are moving in the direction of getting the Government telephone line extended to their district, and with the projected private line in the same district there is every inducement tor the line to be put through. There is little doubt that the line will shortly be necessary right through, the Waitewhenua to Ohura, and it is to be hoped the authorities will lose no time in carrying the settlers wishes into effect. While on the subject of telephones the fact should not be lost sight of that in the erection of the new post-office at Te Kuiti provision should be made for establishing a telephone exchange in the building. The town and district are growing rapidly and the advantages to all are obvious. Already there are enquiries as to the desirability of having an exchange established without delay and by having the necessary provision made in the plans for the new building the matter would be greatly facilitated. The Post-master-General is always alive to the necessity of expansion in the department, and by making timely application much delay ;ind trouble in the future will be obviated.
