Mr Jennings, the member for the district, who has been indefatigable in his efforts towards obtaining recognition from the various Government Departments for his electorate, was in Wellington last week, and he made use of the opportunity to bring before the Ministers the various matters of interest. The erection of school buildings at Pio Pio and Mangapehi were brought before the Minister for Education, who will provide for the same if recommended by the Auckland Board of Education. The opening of a telephone office at Mangapapa, Ohura, will be pushed on with expedition. Road matters, dealing with the expenditure of moneys on the Estimates, and authorised, were brought under the notice of the Minister for Roads and Bridges, who intimated that all authorised moneys would be expended after March 31st. The various officers have been instructed to that effect. The matter of railway construction between Stratford and Ongarue, or place decided on, was brought under the notice of the Hon. Hall-Jones, as well as the branch line to Kawhia. The Minister said the former was being pushed on now, and on completion of the Main Trunk Line, greater progress would be made. The question of deviation would be fairly considered, and the route, in the best interests of the country and settlers, i would be decided on when the report of the survey from Puketutu was submitted. With regard to the Kawhia line the Minister promised to make full enquiries. Te Kuiti post-office site is practically settled, the Native site being chosen, and the erection of the building will be put in hand at an early date. FOOTBALL. The annual general meeting of the Te Kuiti Football Club was held in Mr Kerr's commercial room on Thursday evening, March 26th. There was a very large attendance, and Mr G. Berry was voted to the chair. The Treasurer's report showed a cash belance from last year of £l 9s id. The following officers for the ensuing year were elected : Patron—Mr E. Kerr. PresidentMr J. Mclndoe. Vice-Presidents— Messrs Lorigan, Sims, R. Cotter, Darrow, Berry, Nicholson, Hine, J. Ormsby, Chilcott, Mordaunt, Holland, Carmody, Harrison, White, Hardy, and Dr Zobel. CommitteeMessrs Steele, Vause, Keighley, P. Cotter, Gresham, Boles and Mackechnie. Secretary and Treasurer— E. A. Power. Delegates to Maniapoto Rugby Union—Messrs Steel and P. Cotter. The appointment of captain and selectors was held over till after the first practice match, which was fixed for Saturday, April 4th, in Warihi's paddock, At a subsequent meeting of the Committee it was reported by the Secretary that forty-two members had joined the club. It was decided to meet fortnightly on Tuesday evenings at 8 o'clock, the first meeting to be held on April 7th.
