Meeting of Delegates.
meeting of delegates, interested in a deputation to Wait oif~ttre Premier at Te Kuiti, from Mairoa, Mangaotaki, Paemako, Aria and Kaeaea, took place at the Miroahuiao hall on the lßth inst. at 3 o'clock. Mr O'Dwyer was voted to the chair,' and in a few well-chosen words explained the business of the nfteting. He asked the delegates to sink all party feeling and give their attention to the subjects to be discussed, as all were interested alike in advancing the districts they represented. Some discussion then took place as to the standing of certain delegates in the room. This question being settled the business of electing spokesmen, to wait on the Premier and put certain matters before him, was gone on with. Mr Elliott's motion, that three delegates be appointed to act as spokesmen, was seconded by Mr W. Keighley and carried unanimously* The following delegates were nominated : Messrs Hickman, Elliott, Collins, Smyth, Finnigan and O'Dwyer. Messrs Smyth, Collins and Finnigan declined to act, leaving Messrs Elliott, O'Dwyer and Hickman. It was put to the meeting, and the last named delegates were elected. Mr O'Dwyer moved, that the delegates be ' given discretionary power to bring under the Premier's notice any matter of importance affecting the district, the motion found a seconder in MiElliott, and was carried. After a little discussion it was decided to allot each spokesman a subject. The matter of roads and bridges was given to Mr O'Dwyer, Mr Elliott will urge the deviation of the Railway and Mr Hickman will endeavour to get the Premier to sanction a bi-weekly mail service and improved conditions where money order offices are concerned.
Mr Daly's motion that a Railway League b? formed met with hearty approval, and his suggestion that a pamphlet be prepared showing the advantages gained in the deviation of the railway; the number of people that would -benefit by it; the class of country it would open up, etc., had a * warm reception. Mr Elliott seconded Mr Daly's motion, which was carried. Mr Jackson outlined a plan of campaign, and an executive, consisting of Messrs Jackson, Elliott, O'Dwyer, Daly, Voycc, Davis and Hickman was formed to carry on the business of the league. The subscription was fixed at 55., a large number of those present handed in their names to the secretary (Mr Hickman) who was acting as treasurer. A substantial sum was collected in the room, canvassers were appointed in each district, and the* next meeting arranged for April 22. Other matters were discusssed more or less fully, and the meeting adjourned at 6 o'clock, with a vote of thanks to £the Chairman and Secretary.
