STOCK SALES.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report as follows : On Friday, March 13th, at Cambridge we yarded over 7°o head of cattle, and, with the presence of a large number of buyers, report a successful sale. Best steers realised from £8 5s to £9, lighter weights £6 to £7 /s 6d. young cows and heifers £4 5s to £5 2s 6d, aged heavy cows £3 15s to £4 lOs. I.SO 2 and 3year steers from Taupo made i2 19s to £5, the line being a choice lot Choice 18-month steers £2 lOs to £3 3s, fresh-conditioned cows £2 2s 6d to £3 lOs, store cows £1 /s 6d to £l 16s, really strong and well-grown calves which came forward in large numbers made iSs to 255, others I2s 6d to 15s. Sheep.'—4Bo woolly lambs brought ;8s 6d. Pigs. —Pigs sold at low values, slips bringing 15s to 2ls, and weaners 6s 6d to Bs. On Monday, March 16th, we held a clearing sale at Matamata on account of Mr P. Quinlan, and report a most successful sale. Dairy cows £4 5s to £9, aged cows £3 3s to £3 lis 6d, 18month steers £3, rough 2-year-olds £3 lOs, yearling to 15-month steers £2 ios, fresh-conditioned cows £2 lOs to £2 18s. 12 to 18-month heifers £l 15s to £2. Horses. Medium draught horses £l2 to £24. Light waggon £22 lOs. The balance of implements realised good prices. At Ngaruawahia on Friday, March 20th, good competition ruled throughout the sale, and everything sold. Fat heifers and young c'Hvs £4 I/s 6d to £6, fresh-conditioned cows and heifees £2 18s to £4 ss, store cows £2 5s to £3 I2s 6d, well-bred 2-year steers £3 5s to £3 15s, strong good calves 24s 6d to 31s, others 16s to 20s, smaller sorts 8s to lis 6d.
We held a sale at Te Kuiti on Wednesday, when a large entry of cattle came forward, over 800 head being offered. There was a large attendance of settlers from the surrounding district, and good competition ensued for all classes except empty heifers under two years old, which were almost unsaleable, but steers 3of all ages were wanted, as was also fat and forward stock. A number of pens were passed in at auction, but with few exceptions these were afterwards privately sold at owners' reserves. Prices throughout were equal to late Waikato sales. 3/^-year steers made from L 5 to L 5 17s, 2%-year steers L 3 I2s 6d to L 4, 18-month steers L2 6s to L2 13s, best calves mostly steers 30s, smaller sorts 16s to 18s 9d, fat heifers L 5 2s to L 5 15s, fat cows L 4 lOs to L 4 15s, forward cows L3toL 3 is 6d, store cows L2 to L2 ios, 18-month heifers 31s to 355. Sheep.—There were 2500 sheeplyarded. These were dull of sale and mostly passed in at auction but several lots found buyers before leaving the yards. Aged ewes in fair condition 6s to Bs, aged ewes in low condition 5s to 5s 3d, small lambs ss.
The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, reports as follows: — At Morrinsville, on Friday, 2ist inst., we had a large yarding of sheep and cattle, and for all classes !n forward condition there was keen enquiry, and better prices. Ewes to ram, store ewes, ,cull lambs and all store cattle were no better worth. Thirty fat cattle were sold. Steers £6 17s to £8 ss, cows £4 10s to £6 ss, 18-month steers £2 9s, extra good calves 295, fair calves 17s, poor sorts lOs 6d. Eight springing heifers made from £4 lOs to £6 ss. Sheep—24l fat wethers 17s 6d, 287 fat ewes 14s 6d to 16s, 185 killable ewes lOs 6d to 12s 9d, 56 small store wethers lOs 6d to lis, 330 store aged ewes 7s to 8s 7d, 150 cull lambs 5s to 7s, 850 better sorts were not required, and 750 ewes to ram also failed to attract buyers. 53 rams sold well, a few making %gs to 2j4gs, but the majority went to the pot at 5s to 7s 6d. At Ohaupo on Tuesday March 17, we yarded 804 head of cattle, 640 being steers from 18-month to 4-year-old, the balance of entry comprising calves, fat and forward cows and young heifers. A few pens of tat steers made from £6 2s 6d to £7 lOs, well-bred fresh-conditioncd bullocks £5 7s 6d to £6, fresh-conditioned 3 t° 3%-year steers made from £4 lOs to £5 3s, 2 to 2 T i-year steers £3 lOs to £4 ss, 18-month to 2-year steers were in good request, and sold at £2 19s to £3 gs, 15 to 18-month steers £2 7s (xl to £2 16s, well-fattened cows £5 5s to £6 6s, store cows £1 lOs to £2 month heifers ot good quality 355. decent calves iSs 6d to 20s, poor sorts 7s to 14s. Sheep.—2,4oo fullmouth ewes were yarded, 1050 soundmouth making lOs 6d, _ 1250 failingmouth and in low condition 4s to 6s, local ewes I2s 6d, 16 Romney and Leicester rams 2gs each. On Wednesday and Thursday, 18th j and 19th March, we held our annual autumn horse fair at Combridge. For good sorts in all classes there was a demand, and prices compared very favourably with previous autumn sales, Really good draughts both medium and heavy, made good money. For -'useful cobs and light harness horses and good hacks the same applies. Unbroken horses, really good draught geldings £l6 lOs, 2-year heavy draughts £25 to £3l lOs, 2 to 3-year medium draughts £ll lOs, to £l9, well-bred unbroken light £8 to £l/ lOs. Five thoroughbred horses from Mr R.J. Matthews shed were good sorts, with plenty of bone and style, and sold at 25gs. 35£ s - 2lgs, 23gs, and Ilgs respectively. 3 5~ year heavy draughts made £4O to £4B, medium draughts same age £27 lOs to £3B lOs, older sorts £2O to £3O. 3 to 5-year light express or milk cart stamps made from £l4 to 122 lOs. A nice draft of 13 of this stamp averaged £ls, same stamp slightly heavier £2o' to £24 lOs, best hacks and cobs £l7 lOs to £26 lOs, u=enil sorts £lO to £ls, ponies and sma!i_ hacks £lO downwards,, d.f. plough £lO 15s, waggon L 26, roadster, horse and harness L 24 ss, phaeton, horse and harness L3O, waggon covers L2 5s to L 3 2s 6d. 431 horses were offered, and 278 sold.
