MOKAU-ITI ANNUAL SPORTS.

r" A Successful Gathering

The annual sports, meeting', promoted by the residents of Mokau-iti and surrounding districts, were held at Aria en Thursday. March I2th. The gathering is always looked forward to with pleasure, and is now well established as one of the most popular events of the year in the district. This year's meeting proved no exception to the rule, though the attendance was somewhat smaller than that of the previous year. 1 his was probably due. to some degree, to tiie rain which fell earlier in the week, but the fact that the settlers all round are extremely busy sowing grass seed and repairing damage wrought by the recent bush fires, no doubt contributed largely to the failing away. However, there was no lack of interest, and with an excellent and highly varied programme and good fields, there was no doubt as to the interest of the contests. A number of visitors were present ffrom various outside districts, including several from Te Kuiti. A pleasing feature of the gathering was the manner in which the refreshment booth was run. At times country sports clubs are not to be commended for the excellence of their catering, and Mr Parkes is to be congratulated upon his efforts to serve the public. The Committee all worked hard, and to the energetic Secretarv. Mr A. R. Keighley, much of the success of the meeting was due. The following are the results of the various events : HORSE EVENTS.
