WAIKATO CENTRAL SHOW.

The Waikato Central Show, which was held on Wednesday and Thursday of last week, proved a great success. Notwithstanding the fact that the season has been an unusually dry one, the stock were in excellent condition, and in point of numbers the exhibits exceeded those of

any previous show. Of these, horses numbered 616, cattle 280, sheep 198, and pigs 46. Thoroughbreds and carriage horses were judged by Mr \Y. McKcn/.ie, of Masterton; roadsters and saddle horses by Mr E. D. O'Rorkc, of Auckland ; draughts by Mr J. D. Mitchell, of Mania; Shorthorns and fat cattle by Mr J. Baldwin, oi'Turakina; dairy and Jersey cattle by Mr F. Cornwall, Taranaki; longwool sheep by Mr J. Strang, of Gladstone-; shortwool sheep by Mr T. Pine, Tc k'uiti ; and pigs by Mr T. R. Clow, of i'apatoetoe.

In the horse division Mr W. Tayior, of (Jreenhill, Tc Awamulti, proved highly successful, especially in the brood mare class. The chain* pionship was won by a fine three-year-old stallion, owned by Mr H. Rhodes, of Paterangi, which beat Mr V. L. Bagnall's " Benmore's Pride," who won first honours in the four-year-old and upward class. , Among the cattle Mr' W. Taylor was also very successful in the pedigree Shorthorn section, winning all the championships. In pedigree Jerseys Mr C. Day, of Tamahere, was, as usual, a prominent exhibitor, and secured the championship with his fine bull " Viola's Dairyman." Sheep were fairly strong and well shown, the Lincoln championship in rams going to Mr E. Barriball, of Waiuku, while Mr C. J. Storey and J. R. McElwain were the most successful exhibitors in other classes. The Romney Marsh exhibits were strong, in all points, and attracted considerable attention. Messrs McKinnon Bros., of Pukemiro, were tHV-lnost successful exhibitors. Among the Shropshires Mr C. Day, of TamS-3 here, secuied championship The competitions were all well niscd and elicited keen interest. : Yht|ojj parade was a splendid and imposMgfftgf sight, which conveyed an idea of Ttyfe high quality of slock in the district.
