MANGAPEHI.

A very enjoyable da}- was spent here on Saturday last, the occasion being a Tennis Tournament between Manunui and Mangapehi Clubs. Some very good play was shown throughout the tournament by players of both sides, the Manunui ladies in the 'A ' team showing up to special advantage. Although the Manunui Club is a comparatively new one, and would give one the idea that they are not exactly new players. The tournament resulted in a win for the home team in the ' A ' contest, while in the ' B's ' the visitors proved victorious. In each case the names of the Mangapehi plavers appear first, and in the 'A' contest the best two out of three sets were played, while in the ' B' contest only one set was played. The following are the 'A' scores : Gent's Singles—B. Hayson v. Barclay 6-3, 6-5. Ladies' Singles Mrs Hayson v. Miss J. Brothers 2-6, 1-6.

Gent's Doubles White and McCracken v. Ellis and Barclay 6-1, 6-3. Ladies' Doubles —Mrs Cowley and Mrs Hayson v. Misses Nixon and Brothers 3-6, 4-6. Combined Doubles Mrs Cowleyand Mr Seymour v. Miss Nixon and Mr Ellis 5-6, 6-4, 6-1.

'B' Contest. Gent's Singles—J. Reid v. M. Tait 4-6. Ladies' Singles—Mrs Wade v. Miss M. Brothers 2-6. Gent's Doubles—Messrs J. Rest and R. Drabble v. J. and G. Moyes 4-6.

Combined Doubles—Mrs Wade and Mr J. Reid v. Miss M. Brothers and Mr Moyes 4-6. Ladies' Doubles Misses Cowley and Tomlinson v. Mrs Milne and Miss Kilpin 6-3.
