N.Z. FARMERS' UNION.
The Mokauiti Branch.
The monthly meeting of the Mokauiti Branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held at Kaeaea on the Bth ult., when members were present from a wide range of districts. Mr F. Elwood presided. Little new business was undertaken, that coming under discussion arising chiefly from correspondence received in connection with matters which the Branch had previously dealt with in part. The Secretary read a letter from Mr B. Hewett, of "VVaimai, giving detailed advice with reference to the proposed settlers' telephone service. The project was the subject of some criticism, but members, to a man, expressed themselves favourable to the scheme, provided its being carried out did not involve too heavy an outlay. Quotations for all accessories were received from Messrs Green and Colebrook, from which the Secretary had compiled a rough schedule, showing the cost to the individual settler to be something under three pounds. The meeting decided to hold the matter over pending information regarding the probability of a Governmentiine being laid to Kaeaea. A jetter was received from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, New Plymouth, stating that the Branch's application for a township reserve to be provided on a portion of the section 10, block 2, Aria S.D., would receive the Board's attention at its next meeting. Tjie meeting of the Branch will be held on March 14th, when the advisability of sending a delegate to the Provincial Conference will be considered.
