OHURA.
A largely attended meeting was held at Mangaroa on November 16th for the purpose of forming a Rifle Club. Great interest was evinced in the proposal, and it was decided to form a Club to be called the Ohura Defence Rifle Club. Thirty members were eurolled, and it was decided to forward the following names to the Department as officers: President, Mr D. Bruce ; Captain, Mr G. Loveday ; Secretary and Ti'easurer, Mr W. Woof. The prospects of the Club are undoubtedly good. Several ex South Afaican troopers are on the list as well as other veterans, and there are a large number of young men in the district anxious to take part in the movement. A strong committee was formed to carry out the details and organise the club, and in a month or six weeks all arrangements should be completed. A splendid range has been obtained on Mr Bruce's property where good shooting can be obtained up to 1200 yards. Special mention should be made of Mr Bruce for his kindness and public spirit in giving the range practically free of charge, and the members signified their appreciation of the action by making Mr Bruce a life member of the Club. The opening celebrations will be held as soon as the arrangements have been completed.
