The Estimates.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In looking through the Estimates of votes for public works in the King Country, I notice there are several sums Voted for public buildings, including a Post-office _ and a Courthouse for Te Kuiti. It is to be hoped the residents will move towards getting the money spent as soon as possible. There is a crying need for both buildings, and it will be shameful neglect on the part of those responsible if the work is not done. It is well known that many votes on the Estimates get no further, and are apparently only placed there in order to temporarily satisfy an agitation. The Waitomo County Council, as the representative local body, should take the matter in hand, and agitate strongly for the votes to be authorised for (expenditure immediately. The Government mills grind slowly, but are always induced to move much quicker on the approach of a general election,«if handled In the right manner. Many other things require attention, but these buildings, having been recognised as necessary by the Government, should get special mention. The Stock Inspector's residence is for the department to move in, but all who are acquainted with the ruling conditions will not hesitate to recommend the speedy completion of that work also. Trusting these few lines will help to stimulate the County Council, and thanking you in anticipation.—l am, etc., NEW CHUM.
