OHURA VALLEY.

Summer is at last with us, and

already the roads have dried, excep--"-T~ting where the mud was deepest and places. Bullock and horse are now strung out along the V main road from Ongarue to Mangaroa endeavouring to make up for many months of idleness. Grass is now becoming plentiful, and it is reported that dust was seen to rise prior to the heavy thunderstorm on the 3rd inst. It is probable that milk and cream carts will be wending their way to Niho Niho butter factory in about a week, and though the season will be necessarily short, there is every indication that suppliers will make a substantial profit. The amalgamation of Athletic Sports and Racing Clubs has not been a success at Mangaroa, and a dissolution of partnership has taken place. We have high hopes that the new secretary to the Sports Club will introduce a system that will ensure good meetings and at the same time enable the treasurer to pay up last 3*ear's deficiency. The Ohura Settlers' Association have decided to hold another banquet in the Mangaroa Town Hall within the next few months, when ladies will be admitted —to wait at tables. Messrs Williams and Bruce are establishing a long-felt want in this district in the shape of an up-to-date coach to run from Mangaroa to Ongarue on Thursday and back on Friday. This vehicle which was on exhibit at the Waikato Show is to make its maiden trip on Friday, the 15th inst., in charge of Mr Fred. Mcx Donald, and passengers may rely on having a safe and comfortable journey. It is high time we had at least two mails a week.
