Taumarunui Racing C|ub,

The Taumarunui Racing Club's Spring Meeting, which is to be held on November 9th, gives promise of being a highly successful day's sport. Excellent nominations have been received for the various events, and the fields, both in point of numbers and quality, should be considerably in advance of the average country meeting. The following nominations have been received :

Hurdles. —Black Tresses, Bromide, Hokio, Florin, Florence, Yolette, Oto, Pitoitoi, Harkaway, Fieramosca. Maiden Race. —Lady Jean, Clorine, Freehold, Royal Soult, Miss Grizzle, Oto, Kia Ora, Miss Rita, Pitoitoi, Raepahu, Moment, Sir Rupert, Harkaway, Black Tresses, Cabbage, Rosette.

Cup Handicap. Black Tresses, Bromide, Matahura, Fieramosca, Pukenui, Yolette, Hokio, Napenape, Manapouri, Miss Grizzle, Kia Ora, Evert.

Hack Handicap.—Lady Jean, Oto, Clorine, Pukenui, Royal Soult, Miss Rita, Pitoitoi, Leonette, Sir Rupert, Harkaway, Florin, Freehold, Yolette, Black Tresses.

Matapuna Flying Handicap.—Miss Grizzle, Pukenui, Lady Jean, Fieramosca, Matahura, Manapouri, Kia Ora, Imprimis, Napenape, Freehold, Royal Soult, Pitoitoi, Leonette, Evert, Rosette.

It will be seen by advertisement in another column that the first annual social of Messrs Green and Colebrook's employees will be held at Te Kuiti on Thursday next. The number of hands employed by this, firm renders it desirable to promote a feeling of goodfellowship, and in encouraging anything which makes for pleasant intercourse outside business hou"s the promoters are to be commended. Anglers in the different districts are preparing for the opening of trout fishing season on November Ist. The prospects of sport are reported to be good at Waimeha and Qngar.ue, and the streams near. iTe Kuiti and Otorohanga are also deserving of attention. Owing to the recent floods most of the streams are higher than usual, but with a dry week or two, will be in their normal condition-
