TE KUITI DISTRICT MEDICAL FUND.
The Te Kuiti Medical Fund Committee met in Mr E. Kerr's commercial room on . Monday evening last. There was a good attendance, and the members were able to report very satisfactory progress. Mr H. Hine intimated his willingness to accept the position of secretary, but declined to accept payment for his services. The appointment was ratified, and a vote of thanks passed to Mr Hine for his offer. The Fund has now reached respectable dimensions, guarantees to the number of 170 being to hand, and the total of 200 is expected to be reached in a very short time. The desirability of advertising for a medical man was discussed, and it was decided to insert advertisements in the papers of the four principal centres of New Zealand. The sum of £2OO is to be guaranteed to the doctor as a bonus for the term of one } r ear and, if necessary, the bonus can be continued for a year or two longer, as circumstances warrant. A suggestion to guarantee the doctor an income of £4OO per annum was brought forward, it being pointed out that in all probability a doctor would earn at least that amount and the guarantors would not require to pay anything. The money in hand and subsidy from the Government could then be diverted to other urgent requirements. After considerable discussion a vote was taken on the question, when it was decided to adhere to the original idea.
