[By Telegraph.]

Wellington, Thursday.

The trouble over the cattle-killing-portions of the North Island Main Trunk Railway is likely to be brought to a satisfactory conclusion very shortly. The Hon. J. Now, however, owing the Maori owner withdrawing his offer of a free site, the matter is rather complicated. Messrs Jennings, Pepene, and J. Hetet conferred over the situation} and a suggestion has been made to the Minister which may overcome the present difficulty. The Department is desirous of pushing on the erection of a suitable building if matters can be arranged satisfactorily. Messrs G. Davis, J. Smyth, D. McDonald, P. Smyth, O'Sullivan, Collins, Thomas, Parks, and Morgan have been appointed by the Government to control St. Helen's Domain in Aria township. Trustees for Te Kuiti cemetery are gazetted as follows :—Messrs Hardy, Snowdon, J. Nicholls, M. A. McKenzie, H. Ellison, and W. White.
