Notes on the Play.
The visiting team played a nice friendly game all through. Though hardly able to hold their own in the forwards, the backs proved a very even lot, and had the ball been less greasy would have been seen to much greater advantage. As it was, they handled the oval very v/ell at times, and gained ground by judicious kicking. Of a very even lot McKenzie, Donkin, White and Hayson were seen to advantage. White's dropped goal was a very nice effort, the leather sailing between the uprights as true as possible. The forwards lacked combination, and did not pack as solidly as they should have. They require more practice in scrum work to become a solid combinati6n. The local backs were at a disadvantage in being new to their respective positions, and appeared unable to handle, the greasy bull. The full back had little to do, and of the three-quar-ters Ellison showed to most advantage. Harrison at flve-eights, was a host in himself, and with a little more condition will merit consideration for representative honours. Vause at half played his usual strenuous game, and CJeaver on the wing, was always on the ball. The forwards gave a good exhibition, Poole and Burd being conspicuous on the line and in all the rushes. Taken altogether the game was very even, and was played in a most friendly spirit.
