KAWHIA.
Things are very quiet here, and we have had exceptionally bad weather for the last fortnight, one gale following another, and rain every day. The boardinghouse, which used to be kept by Mr D. Coe, has been added to and done up by the present owner, Mrs T. D. Hamilton, and has been leased by Mrs Jas. Falwasser. It will be re-opened in a few days. Two slight accidents to men working at bushfelling took place last week on Messrs C. R. Morris and Co.'s and Mr A. S. Turrell's properties. . .On the last trip to Marakopa the s.s. Roths ay took down the. plan t for the bridge over the Marakopa - River, Mr G. Scott and his men goingoverland- On the return trip the Rothsay had a bad time crossing the Kawhia bar as, although it had been blowing from the east, there was a big swell coming in. When partly over the bar a big sea broke right over the little steamer, breaking the cabin doors to pieces, flooding the cabin and engine room, and also breaking both guage glasses. All hands had a very narrow escape.
