MATIERE.
The Matiere Dramatic Society propose giving their first entertainment on Tuesday, August 27th. Posters will appear shortly. Mrs A. H. Hyde was the reccipient lately of two handsome presents, one being a silver tea set suitably engraved, from her friends in the Wai-
kato, and the other a gold brooch set with pearls, from friends in the Ohura. These gifts were in recognition of Mrs Hyde's kindness and hospitality at the time of the first sale in Matiere. Needless to say, Mrs Hyde's delight was unbounded at these unexpected presents. The erection of Mr. C. Ryan's boarding hoilse proceeds apage, and the carpenters expect to finish this month. This winter has been an ideal one for the district, and the roads are in as good a condition now, as they are generally in the early summer. Work is plentiful here, and the swing of the axe is heard on all sides. • The annual banquet of the Ohura Settlers Association takes place at Mangaroa on August 23rd. Building operations are seriously hindered here by the tardiness of the local mill, but no doubt with the infusion of new blood, the present condition of affairs will improve.
