MATIERE.
On Saturday, June 29th, our local footballers journeyed to Toe Toe to j&ty Mangaroa. , The day was fine, although in the early part it was threatening for rain. For the first half play was chiefly confined to the Mangaroa 25, but half-time arrived without any score being recorded. In the second spell Mangaroa played with more spirit, but Reteni crossing the line enabled Matiere to retire the victors of an evenly contested game by 3 points to nil. Mr E. Tolme had charge of the game and gave general satisfaction. A. O'Brien, Reteni, G. Mosman and E. Higginson did yeoman service for the victors. Mr Geo. Denison, our Road Inspector, has been appointed sole agent for the Alfa Laval Separator in the Ohura district. Mr W. A. Le Cocq, our popular schoolmaster, returned from Auckland on July sth, after the midwinter vacation. The news of the death of Mrs C. Harrison, of Poro-o-tarao, _ was received on Saturday morning with ' deep regret by all those , acquainted with the late esteemed lady, and profound sympathy is expressed on all sides for Mr Harrison and family in their great loss.
