PROPOSED HALL FOR TE KUITI.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Just a few words by way of endorsement to " Lady Resident's " plea, which appeared in your issue of the 14th inst. Certainly the young people of Te Kuiti would not need to cry so insatiably, " the place is so dull," had we a warm, comfortable, and properly appointed place, to which one could ask a few friends, for a few hours amusement, and I think I may safely say that there is not one of the pleasure-loving community here, who will not respond liberally to any re= quest that might be placed before them in this matter. " Procrastination is the thief of time." I am not an orator, nor yet is writing to the Chronicle my strong point, but I feel, as others do, that something must be done for the " cause which lacks assistance, for the future in the distance, and thegoodthat we can do." —I am, *ete., (i SANS SOUCI."

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l read with mingled interest and regret " New Resident's " letter, which appeared in ycur issue of last week. While thanking him for his good wishes, I cannot but feel the

thrust of sarcasm with which he flavours his letter.: : It is possible, but hardly'probable, that he may be one of these :wculd-be hunted eligibles. Oh ! What egotist-.-;! Poor fool —man ! You think you are essential to every woman's existence, " spero mcliora." One might go further and fare worse in the matter of eligible husbands, were it a matter of husband hunting, but I fancy in this case " New Resident " is slightly out of his bearings and, "verbum sapienti sat," he had better have his compass adjusted, or —disaster. —l am, etc., VATES.
