Professor Wiley, of the United States Department of Agriculture, has reported on the result of a series of experiments which he has made, with the object of ascertaining the effect of borax on the human frame when used in the form of a preservative in butter and other foods. He states that the consumption of borax reduces the weight of the body, and diminishes the amount of nitrogen in the system. For these reasons he condemns borax as a preservative, excepting in cases of emergency.
