The Loan and Mercantile Company report as follows :
At Rangiriri, on May 15th, we yarded over 300 head of cattle. Grown 3 to 4-year-okl steers dull of sale owing to want of condition, but all other classes elicited keen competition. Well-bred 2 and 2%-year-steers, £3 is to £4 4s ; 3-year steers, £4 lOs toi £5 ss; 15 to 18-months steers, £2 2s to £2 18s ; strong calves, 18s to £l Is; fresh cows, £3 5s to £4 2s 6d ; store cows, £1 10s to £2 5s ; fat cows and prime heifers, £4 15s to £6; fat and forward wethers, 17s ; dairy cows near calving, £4 15s to £5 lOs.
At our Hamilton yards on Thursday, only a small muster of cattle were brought forward. Fat steers realized from £7 5s to £8 7s 6d ; fat cows and heifers, £4 10s to £5 ss; aged heavy cows, £3 lOs to £4 4s ; good calves, 20s to £1 4s ; fat ewes, 16s 6d ; weaner pigs, 3s 6d to 7s ; slips, lOs to I2s.
On Friday, May 17th, at Cambridge, we yarded over 600 head of cattle. All stock changed hands with the exception of a few forward steers. Fat steers yarded in excess of requirements, but 87 were disposed of. Fat steers, £7 2s to £8 17s 6d ; prime young cows and fresh 3-year steers, £6 5s to £5 15s; well-bred 2 to 2%year steers, £3 2s 6d to £3 19s ; 3-year store steers £4 I2s 6d; 15 to 18months steers, £2 5s to £2 16s ; fresh cows, £2 5s to £3 2s 6d ; store cows, £l 10s to £l 17s 6d. A large number of calves were sold at the hammer. Best sorts, £l 2s 6d to £1 7s 5 others, 16s to 195; small, 8s to I2s. Quiet yearling 18-month heifers, £1 lis to £l 17s 6d • 3-year dairy heifers in calf, £3 5s to £3 18s ; 2-year heifers close to profit, £5 15s; fat wethers, 20s; weaner pigs, 8s to I2s.
