AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE FOR WAIKATO.

on Sifc Proposed

Endeavours are being' made to have an Agricultural College established at Hamilton, and Mr 1.. J. Hagnall (Chairman of the Education Hoard) accompanied by Mr George (icorge (Director of Technical Education) visited 11amilton on Friday last, for the purpose of conferring with the Borough Council, the School Committee and other representative, citizens. The Mayor of Hamilton outlined the work which had already been done in connection with the proposal, and stated that £IBO in cash had been collected, and promises of assistance in the shape of timber and other building material had been made. The Borough Council had a/','reed to offer to the Board the site next £to the Town llall for the purpose. Mr Hagnall stated that he and Mi' Ccorgc considered that Hamilton was a suitable centre for the proposed college, but. that in order to obtain a giant for the building;, a site of at least seven or eight acres would be necessary. Unless they could get a convenient and central site, they would only be able to have a small manual school, which would be of no use for agricultural education. The Mayor explained that the transfer of the land would be subject to the approval of the. Govcrnment. The land asked for was of considerable area, and the matter would require carelul consideration. The feeling of the meeting' was in favour of the larger scheme.

LOSSES IN SKIMMING. The Secretary of one of the largest dairy companies calculate;; after one season's experience ol the Baltic Separator, that if all the separators used by the company usually averaging .04, were able to skim down to .02«. like the Baltic, the saving for on# month would amount to 1800 lbs. or commercial butter, valued at £75. This remarkable skimming' by the Baltic is the result of its entirely novel principle, which bids fair to revolutionise all previous skimming standards for both hand and power separators.
