FOOTBALL.

A practice match was played at Te Kuiti on Saturday last, between A. and B. Club teams. The ground was in good order, and the players showed greatly improved form compared with previous efforts this season. The forwards were well matched, and kept the leather greatly to themselves. _ln one or two instances good passing runs were initiated, notably when Taylor scored for the A team in the first spell, and F. Kerr for the B team in the second spell. There were many other good chances missed by the players not passing at the right time. Some of the backs were anxious to get rid of the ball too sorn; others clung to it too long. Again the backs were too prone to run out towards the touch line, instead of going straignt, and sending the leather out when tackled. These are all matters which can _ba remedied by practice, and judging from present indications, a fairly strong team should be placed in the field during the season.

The first, Union fixture of the season takes place on Saturday when the Te Kuiti team meets Oparure on the latter's ground. Oparure will be represented by the following: Tete, Tauru, T. Wilkinson, Peutawera, Harris, Clinch, Rora, Mum"" 1 , D. Cce, Wiremu, G. Cleaver, O'N . iu, Re he. TeKuiti players are requcsied to be at Oparure not later than 2.30 p.m. The Te Kuiti team will be selected from the following :
