Mr Langley Shaw, stock and station agent, Hamilton, reports the sale of Mr Charles Allen's Kiwitahi property (near Morrinsville), containing 1800 acres of first-class freehold land together with crops, and stock consisting of about 700 selected breeding ewes and 130 head of cattle, to Messrs Washbourne Bros., of Selwyn, Canterbury, at a substantial figure. Shooting season opens on Wednesday next, and already the local sportsmen are preparing for the strenuous days with dog and gun. There is a scarcity of pheasants in the King Country, in consequence, it is said, of the poison laid for rabbits having accomplished work among the birds. However, there is still some fair shooting obtainable in some localities, and, doubtless, the rattle of the guns will be heard to some effect on Wednesday. The question as to whether alcoholic liquor could be classed as dangerous goods in the King Country, was raised in the S.M. Court on Wednesday. His Worship suggested that considering the penalties attached to dealing with the article, it was not stretching the imagination to consider it dangerous. Mr Collins saw no harm in the act, the danger not attaching to the liquor, but to the fact of being found out.
