BANK OF NEW ZEALAND AT TE KUITI.
TO THE EDITOR. SIR, —I should like to draw attention, through the columns of your valuable paper, to the disgraceful manner in which the settlers and business people are ti-eated by the Bank of New Zealand. The Te Kuiti branch is supposed to open every week on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, until train time. In all conscience this is a poor enough service for a centre doing the amount of business that Te Kuiti does. However, on every possible occasion, and upon the slightest pretext, the branch is kept closed for a fortnight. More than once have I known of cases where settlers have ridden from twenty to thirty miles to catch the bank on the usual days for opening, only to find that the institution was closed. These men were put to the inconvenience and expense of a journey to Te Awamutu in order to complete their business. If a proper notification as to the closing of the bank was inserted in the Chronicle it would save much inconvenience to the settlers. However, that would only be a temporary alleviation of the evil. We require a branch opened at Te Kuiti every day, and steps should be taken to have this done. I have been approached about supporting another bank, providing it starts at Te Kuiti, and have no hesitation in saying that I shall do so. We have not received fair treatment from the 8.N.Z., and another institution undoubtedly merits our best support. Trusting the majority of the residents are with me in this. —I am, etc., SUFFERER.
