SHOOTING ACCIDENT AT TE KUITI.
A serious accident occurred on Sunday last, at Te Kuiti, to a lad named William Cole, son of Mr A. Cole, restaurant keeper. It appears that the lad returned from a shooting expedition about mid-day, and had a number of rabbits slung over the saddle of his horse. After dismounting, his gun, which was loaded, was placed against a wire fence. The boy then turned to get the rabbits from his horse, when the gun slipped from the fence and went off, the full charge entering the lad's left leg, just above the ankle. IV Brooke was soon in attendance and, after administering first aid, ordered the lad's removal to Hamilton hospital. Mr Cole immediately procured a jigger and proceeded to Hamilton on Sunday afternoon. Upon arrival at the hospital it was found necessary to amputate the injured limb below the i:nec. At latest advices the boy was progressing as favorably as could be t xpected.
