TAUMARUNUI POLICE COURT.

Thursday, February 2isr, 1907. (Before Messrs Laird and McWilliam, .Vs. P.) James O'Brien, charged with using obscene language at Raurimu pleaded guilty and was find £5 and costs. A month was allowed in which to pay the fine. Edward Reynolds was charged with ill-treating a horse at Raurimu in November last and pleaded not guilty. William Love, owner of the horse in question stated that Reynolds took the horse without permission ; when he got the animal back it was lame and could not be used since. Evidence was given to the effect that the horse was galloped over rough ground, and Constable Montgomery said he considered it an act of cruelty to gallop across the Waimarino plains. Reyolds, in giving evidence, said that he did not have Love's horse at the time stated ; he had horses of his own and did not require to take the horse in question. Probably it was ridden by somebody else. li. Mosgrove said that Reynolds did not ride Love's horse. After further evidence the bench dismissed the case. O. R. Fair v. D. Kilpin.—Claim 15s for a dozen photographs supplied. Plaintiff gave evidence in support of the claim. .Defendant stated that the photos were spotted when received and he refused to accept them. Proofs of the pictures had not been submitted as agreed. Mrs Kilpin gave coroborative evidence and plaintiff was nonsuited with costs. Alexander A. Jones, a married man, was charged with attempted criminal assault on a girl of ten years at Raurimu, on the sth ult. The little girl gave evidence with reference' to the alleged offence. Evidence was also given by the mother of the child and a neighbour. Constable Montgomery said he spoke to accused the following morning and Jones said he knew nothing about the complaint. Accused reserved his defence and was committed for trial, bail being allowed in two sureties of £loo each, and accused in £2OO. A. Maclaren was proceeded against by the Inspector of Machinery for having left a working engine at Malapuna sawmill in charge af an uncertificated driver. After hearing the evidence of Constable Maher, the Bench inposed a fine of £2 and costs. A large number of civil and other cases were adjourned until March Ist, when the S.M. will preside.
