TARANAKI LAND BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of "the above Board was held on Tuesday, February 19th. There were present: The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Chairman), Messre McCluggage, His16p, Connett and Rattenbury, The following business of interest to the King Country was transacted : Applications approved. —Section 2, block 9, Aria, L. R. Barnett, 1245 acres, Transfers.—A. Brodie to T. H. Lyon, section 1, block 4, Ohura. Approved.—With reference to the application of G. Benson for a transfer of his interest in section 11, Block 10, Ohura, to his son, Joseph Benson, it was resolved that, considering the merits of the case, the Board could not see its way to grant a transfer under the conditions proposed, and that his interest be forfeited. Mangapeehi Lands.—J. H. Graham and others, employed at Messrs Ellis and Burnand's sawmill, requested that the Crown Lands east of Mangapeehi railway station, be prepared for settlement. It was decided to hold the matter over for further enquiry. The following applied for the leases in terms of " The Lands Improvement and Native Lands Acquisition
Act, 1894" : —E. Bennett, section 7, block 2, Aria ; P. D. Smyth, section 12, block I, Totoro; J. H. Hearn, section 4, block 10, Totoro. The Commissioner certified that the applicants were entitled to have them issued and the applications v/ere granted accordingly. It was resolved that an application from D. Finnigv.n and F. Hurley for section 3, block 6, Aria, as an addition to section 10, block 6, adjoining, could not be entertained. Appeal. —An appeal against the forteiture of section 7, block 2, Ohura, was received. The forfeiture was confirmed. Establishing an industry.— A. F. Gulson applied for a, lease of part of Aria township for- brickmaking purposes. It was decided that the land be surveyed, and offered for sale at the first opportunity. Matiere Village.—A yearly tenancy was granted to E. Lowry of sections 23, 25, 27, block I, at a rental of 15s. Defaulters.—F. A. Harrison, section 20, block 5, Ohura, deficient improvements ; has felled 28 acres and will do more this year. Six months extension granted.—W. J. Marsh, section 5, block 14, Aria, deficient improvements; will complete this winter. Six months extension granted.— J. McGrath, sections I and 2, block 8, Aria, non-improvement; unable to get bushfellers ; will be building on section shortly, and will do fencing and felling. Six months extension granted.— E. Broadstock, section 7, block 3, Ohura, non-resident; no reply. Forfeited. The Crown Lands Ranger (Mr E. Tolme) reported on the inspection of 17 holdings, comprising an area of 8468 acres. The requirements of the Act for improvements was £1415, and the value effected had been £4005. There were ten selections resident, of which eight were required to reside. Two had not effected sufficient improvements, and one was non-resident where required. It was resolved that the report be adopted, and the usual notice be sent to those in default, to show cause why they had not complied with the conditions.
