OTOROHANGA.

A quiet wedding took place at Otorohanga on Thursday lasl, February /"th, at the residence of Mr Harold Matthews, the contracting parties being Mr W. L. Cato, and Miss D. M. Matthews. The Rev. S. Spencer performed the ceremony. Mr Nicholson acted as groomsman, and the bridesmaids were Miss Blanch Cato and Miss Phyllis Matthews.

The fanners in (lie district, after repeated attempts, managed to ,'.;et in their crops, and considering (lie weather that has prevailed for sometime, a fairly .",ood harvest lias been the result. Cood hush burns have also been the order o\' the day, and all that is now wanted is a decent downfall o( rain to bnnj; on the ;;rass and turnips, and gladden the heart of the "Cockatoo."

Mr K. J. Karly, Road Inspector, has (after a brief sojourn with us) been transferred lo the Ohura district. Mr F.arly was very popular, and his sudden departure is a matlcr-of great regret amongst his many friends, lie will be greatly missed among (he "early " birds on the tennis court. We have to chronicle the death of one of the oldest chiefs in (he King Country (Pairangi) and a familar figure in Olorohanga. The langi took place at the Maori pah at llauluru on Sunday last, at which there was a great gathering of Natives. The sports entries have filled up well, and providing the weather clerk looks smilingly on us, the cxecllcni programme should bring' together',! large crowd.
