RAILWAY MATTERS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I know that you are always waiting with open columns to give publicity to any real grievance that your readers may wish to ventilate, and I protest strongly at the present slipshod manner in which the Railway Department are catering for the public on this portion of the Main Trunk line. I had occasion on Monday evening to go to the post-office to post my mail, and I found that to execute my errand I had to scramble over three lots of railway trucks, and if it had not been for my athletic propensities I should have had to go right up the main street to the Awakino road crossing, and then come down the line. However, another lady, who is not so sprightly as _ myself, had to do this to post one single letter. I know, of course, that the Vigilance Committee have made an application for a stationmaster to be located here, but the matter seems to have dropped. I think, now that the business is increasing daily, anil the matter of keeping the rail way somewhat clear for the convenience of those who have occasion to visit the post-office, is in itself sufficient cause for the immediate appointment of a stationmaster. —I am, etc., LADY RESIDENT.
