TE KUITI VIGILANCE COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Vigilance Committee was held at Mr Hardy's office on the sth inst. The Chairman reported what had been done since last meeting. Medical affairs had been handed over to a special committee representative of the town and district. A Complaint addressed to the Telegarph Department relative to the delay in "delivering messages met with prompt and courteous attention and the appointment of an assistant. It was resolved to prepare a schedule of matters requiring _ attention, for presentation at a meeting to welcome Mr Jennings, M.H.R., on Monday evening next, at which Mr Hardy would be spokesman. The Chairman wished to pi nee on record the valuable services rendered to the district by Messrs Jennings and Greenslade. Much was "yet required from the authorities and it was confidently hoped that after the 31st March, when financial'affairs were more clearlv defined, something of a practical nature would fall to the district.

The following matters were scheduled :

Blocking of gangway to Post and Telegraph Office by double rows of trucks, stacks of timber, etc.; inadequacy of the Post and Telegraph quarters, and the want ot secrecy therein. Want of a Stationmaster; misapplication of grant for CourtHouse ; appointment of Cemetery and Recreation Reserve Trustees; appcintment of Coroner and Justices of the Peace; metalling of main roads; formation and metalling of streets in Native townships at the expense of the owners as in private townships ; scenic and quarry reserves ; borrowing of one million of money for purchase of Nrtive lands for lease on a reproductive basis ; postponement of sittings of Maori Land Board ; delays in Native Office, Auckland ; delay in surveying main roads already formed, and the grave errors in the subdivision of Native blocks.
