KAWHIA.
The Government have at last notified their intention of granting the £12,000 loan applied for by the County Council, to be spent during the next two years. As soon as the Council can get the money they vviil proceed to let contracts ftir widening and metailing the r.ore important roads. The Northern S.S. Co.'s tender, Rothsay, has not yet put in an appearance, having evidently met with bad weather on her way round from Auckland. On Saturday evening last the Kawhia Hack Racing Club decided to hold a meeting on the 22nd March, and to give about £4O for seven races. The continued fine weather has enabled most of the settlers in the district to burn and most of them are very good. Some of the farmers who burnt early have now a fine show of turnips. The telephone from Kawhia to Te Rau-a-moa and right round the harhour to Te Maika is now completed.
